Keep Up the Pressure to Build Back Better!
As negotiations continue on the Build Back Better reconciliation package, troubling news has trickled out of the Capitol that healthcare provisions may be on the chopping block. As a member of Doctors for America, we know that you stand with us in our belief that patients and patient care must be prioritized over politics - NOW is the time to reach out to your elected officials in Washington, DC and let them know how important this issue is to you.
Call your Representative and Senators at 202-224-3121 and demand they pass the full Build Back Better package. You can use the call script on your right to help guide your conversation and emphasize your support for key policies to ensure access to affordable prescription drugs and health care - feel free to adapt it as you see fit!
Email your Elected Officials. We have also provided helpful language that can be used to your legislators. Keep in mind that written communications are more impactful if you can include a brief personal story about yourself, a family member, a friend, or a patient, to emphasize the real-world impact of the legislation. Congress Must Hold the Line and Pass the Reconciliation Package NOW
This is a decisive week in Congress, with the House poised to vote on several crucial pieces of legislation, including the Build Back Better reconciliation package. But as the week continues, rumors are circulating on Capitol Hill that plans may change – that Congress may wait to attempt to pass the budget reconciliation bill, or that healthcare provisions in the bill might be pared down.

Congress Needs to Hear from You – NOW!
For years, our patients have been struggling due to the rising cost of prescription drugs. Even prior to the pandemic, 1 in 4 Americans reported difficulty affording their medicines, and things have only gotten worse as the pharmaceutical industry continues to raise drug prices. As members of Doctors for America, we are united in our commitment to advocacy to lower prescription drug costs and to create a health system in our country that is universal, simple, and affordable. And it is due to that commitment that we were troubled by the news last week that U.S. Representatives Scott Peters (CA-52), Kathleen Rice (NY-04), and Kurt Schrader (OR-05) voted against healthcare measures in the Build Back Better Plan that would allow Medicare to negotiate the prices of prescription drugs.
