Doctors for America’s FDA Task Force Meets with Policymakers on End-of-Year Priorities

The FDA Task Force is meeting with key members of Congress to discuss the need for robust FDA funding and with leaders at the FDA to discuss robust public advisory committees and strategies to maintain transparency and public trust

Washington, D.C.:  This week, Doctors for America’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Task Force is meeting with leaders on Capitol Hill and at the FDA to discuss the importance of the agency receiving robust funding, increasing transparency, and the integral role advisory committees play in maintaining public trust.

On Tuesday, Doctors for America’s FDA Task Force will meet with bi-partisan Congressional leaders and appropriators to discuss the safety repercussions and impact that any lapse or inadequate funding of the FDA would have on practicing physicians.

“We’re here in D.C. at the end of the year to maintain the drumbeat of clinical voices urging legislators to ensure the FDA is adequately funded. Many may not know how vital the role of the FDA is for practicing physicians. We rely on the agency to make sound decisions about what therapies are safe to be prescribed to our patients and to quickly remove from the market any drugs that are not. We also rely on the agency to ensure an adequate supply of truly safe treatments for our patients and to take timely action to prevent shortages that would unduly impact them. Patients and clinicians need the agency to be fully funded to ensure that patient safety and a resilient supply remain the highest priority of all therapeutic approvals. ” – FDA Task Force Chair, Reshma Ramachandran

The Task Force will also meet with the FDA’s Chief Medical Officer to discuss the role of the agency in protecting patient trust in new drug approvals and the integral influence of public advisory committee meetings.
