Doctors for America Welcomes Warnock and Kennedy Report on Lowering the Price of Insulin

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Doctors for America (DFA) welcomes the release of the new report from Senators Raphael Warnock and John Kennedy identifying the urgent need for federal action to lower the price of insulin. As their report, Examining Insulin Deserts, makes plain, recent voluntary commitments by drugmakers to lower the prices on some of their insulin products are simply inadequate to address the scale of the problem. When faced with the high cost of insulin, many patients must ration or entirely forgo this lifesaving medicine, leading to unnecessary organ damage, hospitalizations and death. No American, regardless of insurance status, should be forced to choose between their financial and physical health.

We at DFA are pleased at the continued efforts by Senators Kennedy and Warnock to correct the terrifying reality far too many patients face when trying to pay for their insulin. We join the senators in calling for immediate action by Congress to pass legislation capping the price of insulin at $35 for all payers. Doing so will both save the country money in unnecessary medical complications and more importantly, reduce illness and suffering among an already marginalized community. The time is now to improve access to insulin for everyone.
