DFA Applauds National Orders Cracking Down on Ghost Guns & Prioritizing ATF Leadership

This announcement from the Biden Administration is an important step toward a safer country for us all.

Doctors for America is proud to have worked on advocating for this new policy of cracking down on ghost guns – the weapon of choice for many violent criminals – and is pleased the White House has announced other steps they are taking to combat gun violence, treating it like the public health epidemic that it is.

Having a strong leader at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) as our nation’s top federal law enforcement agency is critical to improving the overall health of our patients’ lives. Common sense gun laws need to be enforced.

President Biden’s fiscal year 2023 budget calls on Congress to deliver the funding needed to implement a comprehensive strategy to reduce gun crime and make our communities safer. These additional resources will fund essential investments in crime prevention and community violence intervention.

Congress needs to pass this budget and other essential legislation to reduce gun crime, including legislation to require background checks for all gun sales, ensure that no terrorist can buy a weapon in the United States, ban the sale and possession of unserialized firearms — ghost guns, ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and repeal gun manufacturers’ protection from liability.
