Doctors for America’s FDA Task Force Condemns Finance Committee Approval of RFK Jr. Nomination for HHS Secretary
Washington, D.C.: Doctors for America’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Task Force is deeply disappointed that members of the Senate Finance Committee chose to put politics over patients and advance Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) Jr’s nomination to serve as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
RFK Jr. has consistently fueled misinformation about the safety and efficacy of life-saving preventive health care, undermining years of progress in disease prevention, treatment, and public health policy. As physicians, we understand what’s at stake for patients. We are particularly discouraged by the actions of our physician colleagues on the committee, who chose to vote in favor of allowing an avowed anti-science opportunist to lead the federal agency responsible for the health of our nation. We believe that their votes today contradict the longstanding physician creed to ‘do no harm.’
As one member aptly noted, RFK Jr. is “not a disruptor, he is a destroyer.”
As RFK Jr.’s nomination now moves to consideration among the full Senate, Doctors for America implores senators to consider the danger Kennedy poses to Americans by consistently questioning settled science, fomenting fear with misinformation, and putting the lives of our most vulnerable citizens at risk. We urge every senator to vote against Kennedy’s confirmation to serve as Secretary of HHS.
