Doctors for America’s FDA Task Force To Meet with Policymakers in Washington, DC

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Doctors for America’s (DFA) Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Task Force is meeting with policymakers this week to urge congressional leaders to protect the FDA’s independence and integrity. Members of the Task Force will advocate for a fully funded and fully staffed FDA and discuss with policymakers the impact that the recent reduction in staff can have on their ability to practice medicine and foster trust with patients.

“Many positions at the FDA are highly specialized, and the FDA competes with other industries for talented people. Some of those fired were in hard-to-recruit categories, and fired without regard to value or replaceability. The FDA Task Force is meeting with House and Senate offices to discuss the impact that a transparent FDA has on our ability to practice and our deep dedication and responsibility to protect the access to necessary treatment through programs like Medicaid.” Dr. Jan Krommes, Chair of the FDA Task Force

On Tuesday, physician leaders will meet with bipartisan Members of Congress and staff from over ten states to discuss the urgent protections needed to ensure that the therapies they prescribe are accessible and safe, free from conflict of interest, and not hamstrung by staff firings and subsequent shortages.

About Doctors for America:

Doctors for America mobilizes doctors and medical students to be leaders in putting patients over politics to improve the health of our patients, communities, and nation. DFA is an organization of over 27,000 physician and medical student advocates in all 50 states, representing all areas of specialization. DFA teaches physicians and medical students advocacy skills and does advocacy at a state and federal level. Our impact areas focus on access to affordable care, community health and prevention, and health justice and equity. DFA focuses solely on what is best for our patients, not on the business side of medicine. In addition, DFA does not accept any funding from the pharmaceutical or medical device industry, insurance companies or for-profit healthcare companies; which uniquely positions DFA as the organization that puts patients over politics and patients over profits.
