WASHINGTON, D.C—August 12, 2022. After many months advocating for drug affordability for our patients, Doctors for America wants to celebrate one of the biggest wins for our patients: the Senate just voted to pass the Inflation Reduction Act, a historic bill that allows Medicare to negotiate Rx prices. DFA applauds the Senate for responding to our members’ letters and calls, asking for reforms that will make prescription drugs more affordable for our patients.
DFA now asks for the House to follow the Senate’s lead.
The Inflation Reduction Act is a critical piece of legislation to tackle high drug prices by. DFA supports its provisions to:
- give Medicare the ability to negotiate drug prices with a strengthening provision to ensure the HHS Secretary negotiates for a set of drugs each year;
- implement out-of-pocket caps for Medicare Part D, and rebates for price increases exceeding inflation that apply to both the public and commercial sectors;
- make vaccines free for Medicare beneficiaries; and
- expand the Medicare low-income subsidy programs
DFA is asking the House to vote YES on the Inflation Reduction Act to allow our patients to be able to afford the medications they need to survive.
