How Politics Can Impact Public Health: A personal story
February 1 @ 8:00 pm–9:00 pm EST
Dr. Michelle Fiscus is a board-certified pediatrician who moved from private practice to public health and became the target of political backlash while directing the COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Tennessee. She became an international advocate for public health and is a loud critic of the interference and influence of politicians in matters of health and science. Dr. Fiscus will share the story of her incredible journey through adversity and what it took to emerge stronger on the other side.
Participants will be encouraged to advocate by using their influence to educate on the importance of evidence-based policies.
Objectives:
- Understand how political interference in public health efforts places people at risk.
- Assess mature minor doctrines and adolescent rights to seek vaccination without parental consent
- Examine the current political landscape regarding childhood vaccines
