Doctors for America’s FDA Task Force Takes Policy Priorities to DC

Meetings will include members of Congress to discuss the need for a full funding, and Leaders at the FDA to discuss robust public advisory committees

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Doctors for America’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Task Force is meeting with leaders on Capitol Hill and the FDA to discuss the importance of robust funding for the agency and the integral role advisory committees play in transparent and thorough therapeutic review and approvals.

On Wednesday, Doctors for America’s FDA Task Force will meet with a bi-partisan roster of legislators representing four states, to discuss the importance of fully funding the FDA.

“The FDA is the “gold standard” for therapeutic approvals and must maintain adequate funding levels to support thorough reviews free from outside influence. We’re meeting with policymakers to discuss how the FDA impacts the work that we do everyday as practicing physicians and why as a Task Force we’re working to ensure that patient safety remains the core consideration in all approvals.” – Reuben Mathew, Medicine-Pediatrics Physician in New Orleans, Louisiana

The Task Force will also meet with the FDA’s Chief Scientist, Dr. Namandjé N. Bumpus to discuss the important role of advisory committees in maintaining transparency and trust in new drug approvals.
