Doctors for America’s FDA Task Force Meets with Legislators for a Second Time

Ahead of  PDUFA Reauthorization

WASHINGTON, D.C—July 12, 2022. This week Doctors for America’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Task Force is meeting with the key policymakers negotiating the Prescription Drug User Fee Act before it expires in September.

The FDA Task Force will be following up on previous meetings with congressional leaders and reaching out to new negotiators and agency officials to discuss the need to ensure clinical trial diversity is included in the final reauthorization package. The FDA Task Force is requesting the final PDUFA package:

  1. codify making diversity action plans publicly available for independent evaluation; and
  2. include enforcement measures to ensure representation in clinical trials.

The FDA Task Force is committed to increasing transparency at the FDA and ensuring that patients are at the center of all therapeutic reviews and approvals.

Additionally, the FDA plays a critical role in defending a person’s timely access to reproductive health care services. Clinicians across all specialties look to the FDA for evidence-based guidance on prescription drugs and other medical treatments, including abortion and oral contraception medications. As doctors and other health professionals across the country face increasing uncertainty around whether they can continue to practice in such a way that preserves the privacy and sanctity of the physician-patient relationship, upheld by science, and without threat of penalty, the FDA must provide clarity around the agency’s approval of these critical medications and remove any barriers to accessing them.
