Physician Member Spotlight: Chidi A. Wamuo, M.D.

What part of medicine fascinates you the most?

The field of psychiatry, specifically child/adolescent and forensic psychiatry fascinate me most. I view psychiatry as a largely preventive field with a unique ability to address upstream societal factors and determinants of health. As its utility continues to grow, I am excited about the unique opportunities to leverage its strengths to a broader audience.

If you could have dinner with anyone in history that made a positive impact on healthcare, who would it be?

Dr. Savid Satcher, due to his pioneering work in health equity and leadership development.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

Due to my name, most people realize it is from some area in Africa. My father is Nigerian, but my mother is African-American and was born and raised in Philadelphia. It was actually her side of the family that cultivated my interest in science and education. These distinct cultural identities have provided me with a unique worldview.

What do you like to do in your “spare” time? (if you have any!)

Traveling (especially internationally), exercise, and cooking are my main hobbies outside of work.
