Special Advocacy Grand Rounds: Comprehensive Sex Education

October 23, 2022 @ 8:00 pm9:15 pm EDT

Virtual Event Virtual Event
Free

The current state of sex education in the United States is inconsistent and often medically inaccurate. Many state-level governments and school districts provide information that is abstinence-only focused and are based on fear and shame with harmful information specifically targeting LGBTQ students and survivors of sexual violence.

As a physician, our perspectives on the importance of comprehensive sex education can help young people receive accurate information that allows them to make responsible decisions throughout their lives. The key is not only our physician voices but getting involved in local advocacy to impact change.

In this session, we will talk about how to make a difference in local policy using comprehensive sex education.

Session takeaways/promo points:

  • Learn the tenets of a comprehensive sex education
  • Examine a case study of comprehensive sex education implementation – learn how to find existing policy/curriculum, how to advocate for change, and how to make a permanent change
  • Understand the different levels of local advocacy, how to get involved and the importance of having physician voices in those areas

Please join us as we will hear from Jaclyn Friedman, Founder & Executive Director EducateUS: SIECUS In Action and Christine Harley, President and Chief Executive Officer SIECUS: Sex Ed for Social Change. You will not want to miss this!
